A hat - Hats
Wearing a hat on hot summer days is highly recommended when stepping outside.
אִם אַתֶּם צְרִיכִים לָצֵאת הַחוּצָה בְּיוֹם קַיִץ חַם כְּדַאי מְאוֹד לַחֲבוֹשׁ כּוֹבַע עַל הָרֹאשׁ.
There are many types of hats:
A “kova tembel” – a soft fabric hat that sits on the head like a sock
A wide-brimmed hat – often worn by women, offering shade not only for the head but also for the shoulders, neck, and back
A visor hat – protects the face in addition to the top of the head
יֵשׁ כָּל מִינֵי סוּגֵי כּוֹבָעִים:
יֵשׁ כּוֹבַע טֶמְבֶּל – זֶה כּוֹבַע בַּד שֶׁמּוּנָּח עַל הָרֹאשׁ כְּמוֹ גֶּרֶב.
יֵשׁ כּוֹבַע רְחַב שׁוּלַיִם – זֶה בְּדֶרֶךְ כְּלָל כּוֹבַע לְנָשִׁים שֶׁמֵּגֵן לֹא רַק עַל הָרֹאשׁ אֶלָּא גַּם עַל הַכְּתֵפַיִם, הָעוֹרֶף וְהַצַּוָּאר.
וְיֵשׁ כּוֹבַע מִצְחִיָּה – הוּא מֵגֵן גַּם עַל הַפָּנִים וְלֹא רַק עַל הָרֹאשׁ.
Hebrew includes many expressions with the word hat, such as:
“Pulled a rabbit out of the hat” – refers to someone reacting spontaneously or improvising in a situation they weren’t prepared for, like a magician pulling a rabbit from a hat
יֵשׁ לָנוּ הֲמוֹן בִּיטּוּיִים בְּעִבְרִית עִם הַמִּילָּה כּוֹבַע, לְמָשָׁל:
"שָׁלַף שָׁפָן מֵהַכּוֹבַע" – מִישֶׁהוּ שֶׁמֵּגִיב בִּסְפּוֹנְטָנִיּוּת אוֹ מְאַלְתֵּר בְּנוֹשֵׂא שֶׁלֹּא הָיָה מוּכָן אֵלָיו אֲנַחְנוּ אוֹמְרִים עָלָיו שֶׁהוּא שָׁלַף שָׁפָן מֵהַכּוֹבַע כְּמוֹ הַקּוֹסֵם שֶׁמּוֹצִיא שָׁפָן מֵהַכּוֹבַע.
Other common expressions:
“To take off one’s hat to someone”
“Ate his hat”
“The thief’s hat is burning”

עוֹד בִּיטּוּיִים עִם הַמִּילָּה כּוֹבַע:
"לְהוֹרִיד בְּפָנָיו אֶת הַכּוֹבַע"
"אָכַל אֶת הַכּוֹבַע"
"עַל רֹאשׁ הַגַּנָּב בּוֹעֵר הַכּוֹבַע"
כָּל הַבִּיטּוּיִים הָאֵלֶּה מוֹפִיעִים בְּאַרְגַּז הַבִּיטּוּיִים בְּנוֹשֵׂא בִּגְדֵי קַיִץ. אִם אַתֶּם רוֹצִים לִלְמוֹד עֲלֵיהֶם נָא לַחֲצוּ כָּאן.
Here are some example sentences using the word hat:
הִנֵּה כַּמָּה מִשְׁפָּטִים עִם הַמִּילָּה 'כּוֹבַע':
1. The gardener always wears a wide-brimmed straw hat while working to protect himself from the strong sun.
1. הַגַּנָּן תָּמִיד חוֹבֵשׁ כּוֹבַע קַשׁ רְחַב שׁוּלַיִם כְּשֶׁהוּא עוֹבֵד בַּגִּינָּה כְּדֵי לְהָגֵן עַל עַצְמוֹ מֵהַשֶּׁמֶשׁ הַחֲזָקָה.
2. In winter, she always wears a wool hat when she leaves the house, since it’s warm and ideal for cold days.
2. בַּחוֹרֶף, הִיא תָּמִיד חוֹבֶשֶׁת כּוֹבַע צֶמֶר כְּשֶׁהִיא יוֹצֵאת מֵהַבַּיִת כִּי הוּא מְחַמֵּם מְאוֹד וּמַתְאִים לְיָמִים קָרִים בִּמְיוּחָד.
3. For Purim, he dressed up as a magician and wore a tall, pointy wizard hat.
3. בְּפוּרִים הוּא הִתְחַפֵּשׂ לְקוֹסֵם וְחָבַשׁ כּוֹבַע קוֹסְמִים גָּבוֹהַּ עִם קָצֶה מְחוּדָּד.
4. At the preschool party, the kids made paper hats with colorful drawings and special decorations.
4. בִּמְסִיבַּת הַגַּן, הַיְּלָדִים הֵכִינוּ כּוֹבָעִים מִנְּיָר, עִם צִיּוּרִים צִבְעוֹנִיִּים וְקִישּׁוּטִים מְיוּחָדִים.
