A swimsuit is an item of clothing designed to cover a person’s intimate parts when they go swimming at the beach or in a pool.

בֶּגֶד יָם הוּא פְּרִיט לְבוּשׁ שֶׁמְּיוּעָד לְכַסּוֹת אֶת הָאֵיבָרִים הָאִינְטִימִיִּים שֶׁל הָאָדָם כְּשֶׁהוּא הוֹלֵךְ לִרְחוֹץ בַּיָּם אוֹ בַּבְּרֵיכָה.

Even though it’s called a “sea garment” in Hebrew, it’s also used at the pool.

Men’s swimsuits come in two main styles:

Swimsuits that look like shorts
Swimsuits that look like briefs, commonly referred to as “Speedo” after the brand that manufactures them

לִגְבָרִים יֵשׁ שְׁנֵי סוּגִים שֶׁל בֶּגֶד יָם:

בֶּגֶד יָם שֶׁנִּרְאֶה כְּמוֹ מִכְנָסַיִם קְצָרִים.

בֶּגֶד יָם שֶׁנִּרְאֶה כְּמוֹ תַּחְתּוֹנִים וְנִקְרָא סְפִּידוֹ (Spido) עַל שֵׁם הַחֶבְרָה שֶׁמְּיַצֶּרֶת אוֹתָם.

Women’s swimsuits also come in two types:

Bikini – made up of two separate pieces: a top (bra) and a bottom
One-piece swimsuit – the top and bottom are connected, covering the stomach.

לְנָשִׁים יֵשׁ גַּם שְׁנֵי סוּגִים שֶׁל בִּגְדֵי יָם:

1. This store offers a wide variety of women’s swimsuits, including one-pieces, bikinis, and even tankinis (a bikini style designed for plus-size women).
