To jump
You can jump rope—it's a very good exercise. You can jump in to visit friends, and you can "jump beyond your means."
אֶפְשָׁר לִקְפּוֹץ בְּחֶבֶל – זֹאת הִתְעַמְּלוּת טוֹבָה מְאוֹד. אֶפְשָׁר לִקְפּוֹץ לְבַקֵּר חֲבֵרִים וְאֶפְשָׁר "לִקְפּוֹץ מֵעַל הַפּוּפִּיק".
If you decide to drop by and visit friends, it's best to let them know you're coming, because they might be busy or not at home—maybe they also decided to visit friends at the same time!
אִם הֶחֱלַטְתֶּם לִקְפּוֹץ לְבַקֵּר חֲבֵרִים, כְּדַאי לְהוֹדִיעַ לָהֶם שֶׁאַתֶּם מַגִּיעִים, כִּי אוּלַי הֵם עֲסוּקִים אוֹ שֶׁהֵם לֹא בַּבַּיִת כִּי בְּדִיּוּק בְּאוֹתוֹ הַזְּמַן גַּם הֵם הֶחֱלִיטוּ לִקְפּוֹץ לְבַקֵּר חֲבֵרִים.
Some people tend to "jump beyond their means"—this is a Hebrew expression meaning living beyond one's financial ability. In our current era, this is very common, especially in the housing market. People take on very large mortgages but struggle to meet the monthly payments.
יֵשׁ אֲנָשִׁים שֶׁנּוֹהֲגִים "לִקְפּוֹץ מֵעַל הַפּוּפִּיק" – זֶה בִּיטּוּי בְּעִבְרִית שֶׁמַּשְׁמָעוּתוֹ הִיא לִחְיוֹת מֵעַל הַיְּכוֹלוֹת שֶׁלְּךָ. בַּתְּקוּפָה שֶׁלָּנוּ זֶה מְאוֹד נָפוֹץ בִּמְיוּחָד בִּתְחוּם הַדִּיּוּר. אֲנָשִׁים לוֹקְחִים מַשְׁכַּנְתָּאוֹת מְאוֹד מְאוֹד גְּבוֹהוֹת וְלֹא יְכוֹלִים לַעֲמוֹד בַּהֵחְזֵרִים הַחוֹדְשִׁיִים.
