If, for example, a person is drowning in the sea or in a pool, the lifeguard jumps into the water to rescue them.
אִם, לְמָשָׁל, אָדָם טוֹבֵעַ בַּיָּם אוֹ בַּבְּרֵיכָה, הַמַּצִּיל קוֹפֵץ לַמַּיִם כְּדֵי לְהַצִּיל אוֹתוֹ.
In the Mishnah, we are taught that saving one life is like saving an entire world. Really? Does saving one person truly mean saving the whole world?
בַּמִּשְׁנָה מְלַמְּדִים אוֹתָנוּ שֶׁ... לְּהַצִּיל נֶפֶשׁ אַחַת פֵּירוּשׁוֹ לְהַצִּיל עוֹלָם וּמְלוֹאוֹ.
בֶּאֱמֶת? הַאִם לְהַצִּיל אָדָם אֶחָד זֶה אוֹמֵר לְהַצִּיל אֶת כָּל הָעוֹלָם??
Yes, it means saving the entire world of that individual, because from that person can come children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a large family, and that individual can fulfill their mission in this world.
כֵּן, זֶה אוֹמֵר לְהַצִּיל אֶת כָּל הָעוֹלָם שֶׁל אוֹתוֹ אָדָם, כִּי מֵהָאָדָם הַזֶּה יְכוֹלִים לָבוֹא יְלָדִים וּנְכָדִים וְנִינִים וּמִשְׁפָּחָה גְּדוֹלָה וְהָאָדָם הַזֶּה יָכוֹל לַעֲשׂוֹת אֶת הַשְּׁלִיחוּת שֶׁלּוֹ בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה.
Our blessed doctors and all the medical teams in hospitals work extremely hard to save lives.
הָרוֹפְאִים הַמְּבוֹרָכִים שֶׁלָּנוּ וְכָל צִוְתֵי הָרְפוּאָה בְּבָתֵּי הַחוֹלִים עוֹבְדִים קָשֶׁה מְאוֹד כְּדֵי לְהַצִּיל חַיִּים.
