To do
We use the verb "to do" very often, and therefore, there are also many expressions with this verb:
אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בְּשֵׁם הַפֹּּעַל 'לַעֲשׂוֹת' הַרְבֵּה מְאוֹד וְלָכֵן יֵשׁ גַּם הַרְבֵּה בִּיטּוּיִים עִם שֵׁם הַפֹּּעַל הַזֶּה:
-To make a fortune = To earn a lot of money
-To strike it rich = To make a huge profit in a single action
-To have fun = To enjoy oneself, have a great time
-To succeed greatly = To achieve great success
-To fake it = To pretend, put on an act
לַעֲשׂוֹת הוֹן = לְהַרְוִיחַ הַרְבֵּה כֶּסֶף
לַעֲשׂוֹת מַכָּה = לְהַרְוִיחַ הַרְבֵּה כֶּסֶף בִּפְעוּלָּה אַחַת
לַעֲשׂוֹת חַיִּים = לְבַלּוֹת, לֵהָנוֹת
לַעֲשׂוֹת חַיִל = לְהַצְלִיחַ מְאוֹד
לַעֲשׂוֹת אֶת עַצְמִי = לְהַעֲמִיד פָּנִים
If you find yourself in a problem and you think—or someone tells you—that there is nothing to do, know that this is not true, because there is always something that can be done.
אִם אַתָּה נִמְצָא בִּבְעָיָה וְאַתָּה חוֹשֵׁב אוֹ שֶׁמִּישֶׁהוּ אוֹמֵר לְךָ שֶׁאֵין מָה לַעֲשׂוֹת תֵּדַע שֶׁזֶּה לֹא נָכוֹן כִּי תָּמִיד יֵשׁ מָה לַעֲשׂוֹת.
I wish you that you always know to do the right thing.
אֲנִי מְאַחֶלֶת לָכֶם שֶׁתָּמִיד תֵּדְעוּ לַעֲשׂוֹת אֶת הַדָּבָר הַנָּכוֹן.
Here are some sentences using the infinitive "to do":
הִנֵּה כַּמָּה מִשְׁפָּטִים עִם שֵׁם הַפֹּעַל 'לַעֲשׂוֹת':
1. He decided to make a change and move to another city to start a new chapter in life.
1. הוּא הֶחְלִיט לַעֲשׂוֹת שִׁינּוּי וְלַעֲבוֹר לְעִיר אַחֶרֶת כְּדֵי לְהַתְחִיל פֶּרֶק חָדָשׁ בַּחַיִּים.
2. If we want to feel good about ourselves, it is important to do things we love and that bring us joy.
2. אִם אֲנַחְנוּ רוֹצִים לְהַרְגִּישׁ טוֹב עִם עַצְמֵנוּ, חָשׁוּב לַעֲשׂוֹת דְּבָרִים שֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ אוֹהֲבִים וּמַעֲנִיקִים לָנוּ שִׂמְחָה.
3. It is recommended to do some light physical activity before starting the day—it will help you feel better throughout the day.
3. כְּדַאי לַעֲשׂוֹת פְּעִילוּת גּוּפָנִית קַלָּה לִפְנֵי תְּחִילַּת הַיּוֹם. זֶה יִגְרוֹם לָכֶם לְהַרְגִּישׁ יוֹתֵר טוֹב לְאוֹרֶךְ כָּל הַיּוֹם.
4. We should make an effort to maintain open and respectful communication with everyone.
4. צָרִיךְ לַעֲשׂוֹת מַאֲמָץ וְלִשְׁמוֹר עַל תִּקְשׁוֹרֶת פְּתוּחָה וּמְכַבֶּדֶת עִם כּוּלָּם.
