Usually, the makhsan (storage room) is not a room inside the house, but rather a separate room located in the yard.
בְּדֶרֶךְ כְּלָל הַמַּחְסָן הוּא לֹא חֶדֶר בְּתוֹךְ הַבַּיִת, אֶלָּא הוּא חֶדֶר נִפְרָד שֶׁנִּמְצָא בַּגִּינָה.
We store in the makhsan all kinds of things that we don’t use every day, or that we use only occasionally but don’t want to throw away.
אֲנַחְנוּ מְאַחְסְנִים בַּמַּחְסָן כָּל מִינֵי דְּבָרִים שֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ לֹא מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בָּהֶם כָּל יוֹם, אוֹ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בָּהֶם לְעִיתִּים רְחוֹקוֹת אֲבָל לֹא רוֹצִים לִזְרוֹק אוֹתָם.
There are things I don’t want to throw out, so I put them in the storage room—but before Passover, when I clean the makhsan, I end up throwing them away.
יֵשׁ דְּבָרִים שֶׁאֲנִי לֹא רוֹצָה לִזְרוֹק אָז אֲנִי שָׂמָה בַּמַּחְסָן, אֲבָל לִפְנֵי פֶּסַח כְּשֶׁאֲנִי מְנַקָּה אֶת הַמַּחְסָן אֲנִי זוֹרֶקֶת אוֹתָם.
A makhsanaiis a person who works in a storage facility. Large factories have big warehouses where goods are stored, and the person who manages the warehouse is called a makhsanai (storekeeper or warehouse manager).
הַמַּחְסְנַאי הוּא אָדָם שֶׁעוֹבֵד בַּמַּחְסָן.
לְמִפְעָלִים גְּדוֹלִים יֵשׁ מַחְסָנִים גְּדוֹלִים שֶׁבָּהֶם מְאַחְסְנִים אֶת הַסְּחוֹרָה וְהָאָדָם שֶׁמְּנַהֵל אֶת הַמַּחְסָן נִקְרָא מַחְסְנַאי.

הִנֵּה כַּמָּה מִשְׁפָּטִים עִם הַמִּילָּה 'מַחְסָן':
1. In the storage room in the yard, we keep work tools, the lawn mower, and all the machines we use in the garden.
1. בַּמַּחְסָן בַּגִּינָה אֲנַחְנוּ שָׂמִים כְּלֵי עֲבוֹדָה וְגַם אֶת מַכְסֵחַת הַדֶּשֶׁא וְכָל הַמְּכוֹנוֹת שֶׁאִיתָּן אֲנַחְנוּ עוֹבְדִים בַּגִּינָּה.
2. At the school, there’s a colorful and impressive costume storage room, full of shiny hats, capes, and props from past performances.
2. בְּבֵית הַסֵּפֶר יֵשׁ מַחְסַן תַּחְפּוֹשׂוֹת צִבְעוֹנִי וּמַרְהִיב, מָלֵא כּוֹבָעִים נוֹצְצִים, גְּלִימוֹת וַאֲבִיזָרִים מֵהַצָּגוֹת הֶעָבָר.
3. They had to rent a storage unit because they moved to a smaller apartment and didn’t want to throw away the things they couldn’t take with them.
3. הֵם נֶאֶלְצוּ לִשְׂכּוֹר מַחְסָן כִּי הֵם עָבְרוּ לְדִירָה קְטַנָּה יוֹתֵר וְלֹא רָצוּ לִזְרוֹק אֶת הַדְּבָרִים שֶׁלֹּא יָכְלוּ לָקַחַת אִיתָּם.
4. Behind the mall, there’s a huge logistics warehouse that receives goods around the clock and distributes them to the stores.
4. מֵאֲחוֹרֵי הַקַּנְיוֹן יֵשׁ מַחְסָן לוֹגִיסְטִי עֲנָק שֶׁמְּקַבֵּל סְחוֹרוֹת בְּכָל שְׁעוֹת הַיְּמָמָה וּמְחַלֵּק אוֹתָן לַחֲנוּיוֹת.
