It’s true that this expression contains the word “salon,” but the truth is that the phrase “salon conversations” does not refer only to conversations that take place in an actual living room. In other words, there is no necessary connection to the physical location where the conversation occurs. Salon conversations can take place anywhere — even in the kitchen.

The expression “salon conversations” refers to informal discussions that take place in a comfortable, homey, and friendly atmosphere, as opposed to conversations that occur, for example, in an office or workplace setting.
הַבִּיטּוּי שִׂיחוֹת סָלוֹן מִתְיַחֵס לְשִׂיחוֹת לֹא רִשְׁמִיּוֹת שֶׁמִּתְקַיְּמוֹת בַּאֲוִירָה נוֹחָה, בֵּיתִית וַחֲבֵרִית בְּנִיגּוּד לְשִׂיחוֹת שֶׁמִּתְקַיְּמוֹת, לְמָשָׁל, בַּמִּשְׂרָד אוֹ בִּמְקוֹם הָעֲבוֹדָה.
In addition to the atmosphere in which salon conversations take place, we can also talk about the topics they typically include. Salon conversations usually revolve around personal matters between the friends participating in them, or everyday topics such as raising children or exchanging recipes.
It’s also possible to talk in salon conversations about current events, and even to debate political issues.

As we know, the origin of the word 'Salon' is French, and therefore it’s reasonable to assume that the expression “salon conversations” originated from the gatherings of the cultural elite in Paris during the 18th and 19th centuries.
At these gatherings, people would engage in discussions on topics such as culture, art, and literature — subjects considered less important than politics and state affairs.
