Snow

We don't have much snow in Israel.

We wait impatiently for snow to fall on Mount Hermon, and when it does, there are huge traffic jams on the way to Hermon, because the entire people of Israel want to see some snow.

אֵין לָנוּ הַרְבֵּה שֶׁלֶג בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל.

אֲנַחְנוּ מְחַכִּים בְּקוֹצֶר רוּחַ לִירִידַת שֶׁלֶג עַל הַר הַחֶרְמוֹן, וּכְשֶׁזֶּה קוֹרֶה יֵשׁ פְּקָקִים גְּדוֹלִים בַּדֶּרֶךְ לַחֶרְמוֹן, כִּי כָּל עַם יִשְׂרָאֵל רוֹצֶה לִרְאוֹת קְצָת שֶׁלֶג.

There is no doubt that the sight of snow is particularly enchanting, especially when the entire landscape is covered in white snow.

אֵין סָפֵק שֶׁמַּרְאֵה הַשֶּׁלֶג מַקְסִים, בִּמְיוּחָד כְּשֶׁכָּל הַנּוֹף מְכוּסֶּה בְּשֶׁלֶג לָבָן.

Students and friends from Europe tell me that when it snows, they are forced to go outside in the cold air and shovel the snow away from the home entrance path.

תַּלְמִידִים וַחֲבֵרִים מֵאֵירוֹפָּה מְסַפְּרִים לִי שֶׁכַּאֲשֶׁר יוֹרֵד שֶׁלֶג הֵם צְרִיכִים לָצֵאת הַחוּצָה בַּקּוֹר וּלְפַנּוֹת אֶת הַשֶּׁלֶג מִשְּׁבִיל הַכְּנִיסָה לַבַּיִת.

At a time when Europe or the USA are freezing cold, snow is falling, and temperatures are below zero – I invite you to a cup of coffee in the Israeli sun.

בִּזְמַן שֶׁבְּאֵירוֹפָּה אוֹ בְּאַרְצוֹת הַבְּרִית קוֹפְאִים מִקוֹר, יוֹרֵד שֶׁלֶג וְהַטֶּמְפֶּרָטוּרוֹת מִתַּחַת לַאֶפֶס – אֲנִי מַזְמִינָה אֶתְכֶם לְכוֹס קָפֶה בַּשֶּׁמֶשׁ הַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִית.

1. At the end of January, we went to Hermon and built a snowman. We put a woolen hat on its head and a scarf on its shoulders.

3. Do you know Snow White from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs"? Well, she is called Snow White because her skin is as white as snow.

3. מַכִּירִים אֶת שִׁלְגִּיָּה מִ"שִׁלְגִּיָּה וְשִׁבְעַת הַגַּמָּדִים"? וּבְכֵן, הִיא נִקְרֵאת כָּכָה כִּי עוֹרָהּ צַח כַּשֶּׁלֶג.

4. The snow blocked the entrance path to the house. Unfortunately, we are forced to go outside this cold air in order to clear it.
