Thunder
Lightning is the light that comes before the great thunder.
הַבָּרָק הוּא הָאוֹר שֶׁמַּגִּיעַ לִפְנֵי הָרַעַשׁ הַגָּדוֹל.
The sight of lightning in the night sky is amazing. When there is a lightning storm at night it is fascinating to watch how the lightning creates all kinds of white lines on the black sky at night.
הַמַּרְאֶה שֶׁל הַבָּרָק בִּשְׁמֵי הַלַּיְלָה הוּא מַדְהִים. כַּאֲשֶׁר יֵשׁ סוּפַת בְּרָקִים בַּלַּיְלָה זֶה מְרַתֵּק לְהִסְתַּכֵּל אֵיךְ הַבְּרָקִים מְצַיְּרִים כָּל מִינֵי קַוִּים לְבָנִים עַל הָרֶקַע הַשָּׁחוֹר שֶׁל הַשָּׁמַיִם בַּלַּיְלָה.
The root ב.ר.ק has a positive connotation: when cups come out of the dishwasher, they are shiny, the diamond – is shiny.
הַשֹּׁרֶשׁ ב.ר.ק הוּא בַּעַל קוֹנוֹטַצְיָה חִיּוּבִית: כְּשֶׁכּוֹסוֹת יוֹצְאוֹת מֵהַמֵּדִיחַ הֵן מַבְרִיקוֹת, הַיַּהֲלוֹם – מַבְרִיק.
But despite the positive connotation and the beautiful appearance, lightning can be very dangerous. In October 2019, a major disaster struck Israel. A 14-year-old boy from Be'er Sheba was struck by lightning on the beach and died.
אֲבָל לַמְרוֹת הַקּוֹנוֹטַצְיָה הַחִיּוּבִית וְהַמַּרְאֶה הַיָּפֶה, הַבָּרָק יָכוֹל לִהְיוֹת מְאוֹד מְסוּכָּן. בְּאוֹקְטוֹבֶּר 2019 קָרָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל אָסוֹן גָּדוֹל. יֶלֶד בֵּן 14 מִבְּאֵר שֶׁבַע נִפְגַּע מִמַּכַּת בָּרָק כְּשֶׁהָיָה בְּחוֹף הַיָּם וְנִפְטַר.

3. His words were sharp, like lightning, cutting and precise every time he opened his mouth, and left everyone speechless.
3. דְּבָרָיו הָיוּ חַדִּים כְּבָרָק, חוֹתְכִים וּמְדוּיָּקִים בְּכָל פַּעַם שֶׁהוּא פָּתַח אֶת פִּיו, וְהוֹתִירוּ אֶת כּוּלָם לְלֹא מִילִּים.
