We find ourselves using this phrase a lot, especially in this generation.
אֲנַחְנוּ מוֹצְאִים אֶת עַצְמֵנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה הַרְבֵּה בִּמְיוּחָד בַּדּוֹר הַזֶּה.
In the past, parents were more experienced than their children and often determined the course of their children's lives.
בֶּעָבָר, הַהוֹרִים הָיוּ בַּעֲלֵי נִסָּיוֹן רַב יוֹתֵר מִיַּלְדֵיהֶם וּפְעָמִים רַבּוֹת הָיוּ גַּם קוֹבְעִים אֶת מַסְלוּל הַחַיִּים שֶׁל הַיְּלָדִים.
For example: Parents would decide for their children whether they would study, what they would study and where, who they would marry and where they would live.
לְמָשָׁל: הַהוֹרִים הָיוּ מַחֲלִיטִים עֲבוּר יַלְדֵיהֶם אִם יִלְמְדוּ, מָה יִלְמְדוּ וְאֵיפֹה, עִם מִי יִתְחַתְּנוּ וְאֵיפֹה יָגוּרוּ.
In our generation, children are often much more knowledgeable than their parents, especially in the field of technology, and they deal with the world directly and do not need the mediation or guidance of their parents.
בְּדוֹרֵנוּ, הַיְּלָדִים הַרְבֵּה פְּעָמִים יוֹתֵר בְּקִיאִים מֵהַהוֹרִים, בִּמְיוּחָד בַּתְּחוּם הַטֶּכְנוֹלוֹגִי וְהֵם מִתְמוֹדְדִים עִם הָעוֹלָם בְּצוּרָה יְשִׁירָה וְלֹא צְרִיכִים אֶת הַתִּיוּוּךְ אוֹ הַהַכְוָנָה שֶׁל הַהוֹרִים.
