The meaning of the verb "נָשָׂא" is usually: carried, lifted or took from place to place, but in this expression its meaning changes a bit and together with the word "fruit" it takes on the meaning of "was successful".

מַשְׁמָעוּתוֹ שֶׁל הַפֹּעַל נָשָׂא הִיא בְּדֶרֶךְ כְּלָל: סָחַב, הֵרִים אוֹ לָקַח מִמָּקוֹם לְמָקוֹם, אֲבָל בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה הַמַּשְׁמָעוּת שֶׁלּוֹ מִשְׁתַּנָּה קְצָת וּבְיַחַד עִם הַפְּרִי הוּא מְקַבֵּל מַשְׁמָעוּת שֶׁל הִצְלִיחַ.

For example: He worked very hard on this project, and it bore fruit, meaning the project was successful.

לְמָשָׁל: הוּא עָבַד קָשֶׁה מְאוֹד עַל הַפְּרוֹיֶקְט הַזֶּה וְזֶה נָשָׂא פְּרִי, כְּלוֹמַר הַפְּרוֹיֶקְט הִצְלִיחַ.

Another example: The teachers' struggle for a raise in their salaries bore fruit.

עוֹד דּוּגְמָא: מַאֲבַק הַמּוֹרִים לְהַעֲלָאָה בִּשְׂכָרָם נָשָׂא פְּרִי.

This usually happens every year around the end of August, because the school year in Israel begins on September 1st. So around mid-August the teachers go on strike and usually their struggle bears fruit.

זֶה בְּדֶרֶךְ כְּלָל קוֹרֶה כָּל שָׁנָה בִּסְבִיבוֹת סוֹף אוֹגוּסְט, כִּי בְּאֶחָד בְּסֶפְּטֶמְבֶּר מַתְחִילָה שְׁנַת הַלִּימּוּדִים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל. אָז בִּסְבִיבוֹת אֶמְצַע אוֹגוּסְט הַמּוֹרִים יוֹצְאִים לִשְׁבִיתָה וּבְדֶרֶךְ כְּלָל מַאֲבָקָם נוֹשֵׂא פְּרִי.
