To sanctify
We use the infinitive "to sanctify" when we want to say that we wish to make something holy.
אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בְּשֵׁם הַפֹּעַל 'לְקַדֵּשׁ' כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ רוֹצִים לְהַגִּיד שֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ רוֹצִים לַהֲפוֹךְ מַשֶּׁהוּ לְקָדוֹשׁ.
On Fridays afternoon, shortly before the beginning of Shabbat, every Jewish woman lights candles in order to sanctify the Shabbat.
בְּיוֹם שִׁישִּׁי אַחֲרֵי הַצָּהֳרַיִם, קְצָת לִפְנֵי כְּנִיסַת שַׁבָּת כָּל אִישָּׁה יְהוּדִיָּה מַדְלִיקָה נֵרוֹת כְּדֵי לְקַדֵּשׁ אֶת הַשַּׁבָּת.
Before the Shabbat meal, the person who performs the Kiddush customarily sanctifies the wine and the challah. He recites a blessing and gives everyone seated around the table a taste of the wine, and also breaks the challah and distributes a small piece to each person.
לִפְנֵי אֲרוּחַת שַׁבָּת, מִי שֶׁעוֹרֵךְ אֶת הַקִּידּוּשׁ נוֹהֵג לְקַדֵּשׁ עַל הַיַּיִן וְעַל הַחָלָה. הוּא אוֹמֵר בְּרָכָה וְנוֹתֵן לְכָל הַיּוֹשְׁבִים מִסָּבִיב לַשּׁוּלְחָן לִטְעוֹם מִן הַיַּיִן וְגַם בּוֺצֵעַ אֶת הַחָלָה וּמְחַלֵּק לְכָל אֶחָד חֲתִיכָה קְטַנָּה.
Under the wedding canopy, when a man wants to sanctify a woman, he recites a prayer, places a ring on her finger, breaks a glass, and thereby makes her his wife.
גַּם מִתַּחַת לָחוּפָּה כְּשֶׁהַגֶּבֶר רוֹצֶה לְקַדֵּשׁ אִישָּׁה, הוּא אוֹמֵר תְּפִילָּה, שָׂם עַל אֶצְבָּעָהּ טַבַּעַת, שׁוֹבֵר כּוֹס, וּבְכָךְ הוּא הוֹפֵךְ אוֹתָהּ לְאִשְׁתּוֹ.
