A soldier - Soldiers
The word "soldier" refers to a person who has enlisted in military service. In Israel, every young man and woman who finishes high school, at around 18 years old, is required to enlist in military service and become soldiers in the IDF.
הַמִּילָּה חָיָּל פֵּרוּשָׁהּ אָדָם שֶׁהִתְגַּיֵּס לְשֵׁירוּת בִּיטָּחוֹן. בִּמְדִינַת יִשְׂרָאֵל כָּל צָעִיר וּצְעִירָה הַמְּסַיְּמִים אֶת לִימּוּדֵיהֶם בַּתִּיכוֹן, בְּגִיל 18 בְּעֵרֶךְ, מְחוּיָּבִים לְהִתְגַּיֵּס לְשֵׁירוּת הַמְּדִינָה וְלַהֲפוֹךְ לְחַיָּלִים בְּצה"ל.
IDF soldiers serve in many different roles. Some soldiers are combat fighters, while others serve in support positions that aid military operations.
חַיָּלֵי צה"ל עוֹשִׂים תַּפְקִידִים רַבִּים וְשׁוֹנִים בְּצה"ל. יֵשׁ חַיָּלִים שֶׁהֵם לוֹחֲמִים וְיֵשׁ חַיָּלִים שֶׁהֵם תּוֹמְכֵי לְחִימָה.
We also use the word "soldiers" when referring to game pieces on a board game. For example, in Monopoly, each player has their own game piece, which is called a soldier.
אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בַּמִּילָּה חַיָּלִים גַּם כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ מְדַבְּרִי ם עַל כֵּלִים עַל לוּחַ מִשְׂחָק, לְמָשָׁל בְּמוֹנוֹפּוֹל לְכָל מִשְׁתַּתֵּף יֵשׁ חַיָּל מִשֶּׁלּוֹ.

אֲנִי מִתְפַּלֶּלֶת שֶׁיִּהְיוּ לָנוּ רַק חַיָּלִים בְּמִשְׂחָקִים.
