To wash
When we use the infinitive "לשטוף" ("to wash"), we usually refer to cleaning with water. If the house floor is very dirty, I would say: "I must wash the floor." However, the truth is that I wash the floor not only with water but also with soap.
כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בְּשֵׁם הַפֹּּעַל 'לִשְׁטוֹף' אֲנַחְנוּ מִתְכַּוְּנִים בְּעִיקָּר לְנִקָּיוֹן בְּעֶזְרַת מַיִם. אִם הָרִצְפָּה שֶׁל הַבַּיִת מַמָּשׁ מְלוּכְלֶכֶת אֲנִי אֺמַר: 'אֲנִי חַיֶּבֶת לִשְׁטוֹף אֶת הָרִצְפָּה'. אֲבָל הָאֱמֶת הִיא שֶׁאֲנִי שׁוֹטֶפֶת אֶת הָרִצְפָּה גַּם עִם סַבּוֹן וְלֹא רַק עִם מ ַיִם.
When there is a lot of rain, the streams fill up with water, and if there are strong currents, they can wash away everything in their path.
כְּשֶׁיֵּשׁ הַרְבֵּה גֶּשֶׁם, הַנְּחָלִים מִתְמַלְּאִים בְּמַיִם וְאִם יֵשׁ זְרָמִים חֲזָקִים הֵם יְכוֹלִים לִשְׁטוֹף אֶת כָּל מָה שֶׁיֵּשׁ בַּדֶּרֶךְ.
If my children did something wrong, I need to wash them, but not with water—with words.
אִם הַיְּלָדִים שֶׁלִּי עָשׂוּ מַשֶּׁהוּ רַע, אֲנִי צְרִיכָה לִשְׁטוֹף אוֹתָם, אֲבָל לֹא בְּמַיִם. בְּמִילִּים.
In Hebrew, we have the expression "to wash one's eyes" ("לשטוף את העיניים"), which means to see beautiful people or landscapes.
יֵשׁ לָנוּ בְּעִבְרִית אֶת הַבִּיטּוּי "לִשְׁטוֹף אֶת הָעֵינַיִם" שֶׁמַּשְׁמָעוּתוֹ הִיא לִרְאוֹת אֲנָשִׁים אוֹ נוֹפִים יָפִים.
Here are some sentences using the infinitive verb "לשטוף" ("to wash"):

1. If you want to prepare a vegetable salad, you need to wash the vegetables with water to remove pesticide residues.
