A glass - Glasses
Did you know? A standard cup has a volume of 240 ml. Generally, when we talk about a cup, we refer to a small container made of glass from which we drink various liquids.
הַיְדַעְתֶּם? כּוֹס תִּקְנִית הִיא בַּעֲלַת נֶפַח שֶׁל 240 מ"ל.
בְּדֶרֶךְ כְּלָל כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ מְדַבְּרִים עַל כּוֹס אֲנַחְנוּ מְדַבְּרִים עַל מֵיכַל קָטָן שֶׁעָשׂוּי מִזְּכוּכִית שֶׁמִּמֶּנּוֺ אֲנַחְנוּ שׁוֹתִים נוֹזְלִים שׁוֹנִים.
But there are also plastic cups. Usually, we give small children a plastic cup to drink from because if they drop it on the floor, it won't break.
אֲבָל יֵשׁ גַּם כּוֹסוֹת מִפְּלַסְטִיק. בְּדֶרֶךְ כְּלָל אֲנַחְנוּ נוֹתְנִים לִילָדִים קְטַנִּים לִשְׁתּוֹת מִכּוֹס פְּלַסְטִיק כִּי אִם הֵם יַפִּילוּ אוֹתָהּ עַל הָרִצְפָּה הִיא לֹא תִּשָׁבֵר.
There is a wine glass that has a high stem, and there is a beer glass made of thick glass and its volume is larger.
יֵשׁ כּוֹס יַיִן שֶׁיֵּשׁ לָהּ רֶגֶל גְּבוֹהָה וְיֵשׁ כּוֹס בִּירָה שֶׁעֲשׂוּיָה מִזְּכוּכִית עָבָה וְהַנֶּפַח שֶׁלָּהּ גָּדוֹל יוֹתֵר.
We have the pharse from the Mishnah "A person is recognized by his cup, by his pocket, and by his anger," which means that one can learn about a person's character in three areas: by his cup – meaning how he behaves when he is intoxicated; by his pocket – how he behaves with money - whether he is a spender or a saver; and by his anger – how he behaves when he is angry – whether he loses control.
יֵשׁ לָנוּ אֶת הַבִּיטּוּי מֵהַמִּשְׁנָה: "אָדָם נִיכַּר בְּכוֹסוֹ, בְּכִיסוֹ וּבְכַעֲסוֹ" שֶׁמַּשְׁמָעוּתוֹ הִיא שֶׁאֶפְשָׁר לִלְמוֹד עַל הָאוֹפִי שֶׁל הָאָדָם בִּשְׁלוֹשָׁה תְּחוּמִים: בְּכוֹסוֹ – כְּלוֹמַר אֵיךְ הוּא מִתְנַהֵג כְּשֶׁהוּא מִשְׁתַּכֵּר,
בְּכִיסוֹ – אֵיךְ הוּא מִתְנַהֵג עִם כֶּסֶף - הַאִם הוּא בַּזְבְּזָן אוֹ חַסְכָן?
וּבְכַעֲסוֹ - אֵיךְ הוּא מִתְנַהֵג כְּשֶׁהוּא כּוֹעֵס – הַאִם הוּא מְאַבֵּד שְׁלִיטָה?
