This expression appears in Psalms, chapter 82, verse 13.
The date is the fruit of the palm tree. The palm tree is a tall tree that has large leaves that we use as a canopy for our Sukkah during the holiday of Sukkot.
The palm tree also gives delicious fruit, for those who like dates.
This expression wants to convey to us the message that if you are righteous, you will flourish like the date tree, meaning that you will grant the world many good things of all kinds and many people will be able to enjoy what you give.
צַדִּיק כַּתָּמָר יִפְרָח
TSADIK KA-TAMAR YIFRACH
The righteous will flourish as a date (palm tree)
הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה מוֹפִיעַ בִּתְהִילִּים פֶּרֶק צב פָּסוּק יג'.
הַתָּמָר הוּא הַפְּרִי שֶׁל עֵץ הַדֶּקֶל. עֵץ הַדֶּקֶל הוּא עֵץ גָּבוֹהַּ שֶׁיֵּשׁ לוֹ עָלִים גְּדוֹלִים בָּהֶם אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים כִּסְכַךְ לַסּוּכָּה שֶׁלָּנוּ בְּחַג הַסּוּכּוֹת. הַדֶּקֶל גַּם נוֹתֵן פֵּירוֹת טְעִימִים, לְמִי שֶׁאוֹהֵב תְּמָרִים.
הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה רוֹצֶה לְהַעֲבִיר לָנוּ אֶת הַמֶּסֶר שֶׁאִם אַתָּה צַדִּיק, אַתָּה תִּפְרַח כְּמוֹ עֵץ הַתָּמָר, כְּלוֹמַר תַּעֲנִיק לָעוֹלָם הַרְבֵּה דְּבָרִים טוֹבִים מִכָּל מִי נֵי סוּגִים, וְהַרְבֵּה אֲנָשִׁים יוּכְלוּ לֵהָנוֹת מִמָּה שֶׁאַתָּה מַעֲנִיק.
In short: it is worth being righteous!
בְּקִיצּוּר: כְּדַאי לִהְיוֹת צַדִּיק!
