KESEF LO TSOMEACH AL HA-ETSIM

Money doesn't grow on trees

We usually say this phrase to children who don't know how to delay satisfaction or to people who spend money irresponsibly.

אֶת הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה אֲנַחְנוּ אוֹמְרִים בְּדֶרֶךְ כְּלָל לִילָדִים שֶׁלֹּא יוֹדְעִים לִדְחוֹת סִיפּוּקִים אוֹ לַאֲנָשִׁים שֶׁנּוֹהֲגִים לְבַזְבֵּז כֶּסֶף בְּלִי אַחְרָיוּת.

This phrase wants to tell us that we work hard to earn money and therefore we should use it wisely and avoid wasting it.

הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה רוֹצֶה לְהַגִּיד לָנוּ שֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ עוֹבְדִים קָשֶׁה כְּדֵי לְהַשִּׂיג כֶּסֶף וְלָכֵן יֵשׁ לִנְהוֹג בּוֹ בִּתְבוּנָה וּלְהִמָּנַע מִבִּזְבּוּז.

But if we think about it deeply, even fruits are hard to grow. We need to invest a lot of care and time in the tree until it grows and starts to bear fruit.

אֲבָל אִם נַחֲשׁוֹב עַל זֶה לָעוֹמֶק גַּם פֵּירוֹת קָשֶׁה לְגַדֵּל. אֲנַחְנוּ צְרִיכִים לְהַשְׁקִיעַ הַרְבֵּה טִיפּוּל וּזְמַן בָּעֵץ עַד שֶׁהוּא גָּדֵל וּמַתְחִיל לָתֵת פֵּירוֹת.
