Grandma’s medicines
We have the phrase "grandmother's stories" in the trunk of phrases. We said that it means stories that are not so reliable. On the other hand, I really believe in grandmother's remedies.
יֵשׁ לָנוּ בְּאַרְגָז הַבִּיטּוּיִים אֶת הַבִּיטּוּי "סִיפּוּרֵי סָבְתָא". אָמַרְנוּ שֶׁמַּשְׁמָעוּתוֹ סִיפּוּרִים לֹא כָּל כָּךְ אֲמִינִים. לְעוּמַּת זֶה אֲנִי מַמָּשׁ מַאֲמִינָה בִּתְרוּפוֹת סָבְתָא.
Although conventional medicine treats grandmother's remedies as if they were grandmother's tales, but I really prefer to put compresses on my forehead to bring down the fever instead of taking paracetamol.
אָמְנָם הָרְפוּאָה הַקּוֹנְבֶנְצִיּוֹנָאלִית מִתְיַחֶסֶת לִתְרוּפוֹת סָבְתָא כְּמוֹ אֶל סִיפּוּרֵי סָבְתָא, אֲבָל אֲנִי מַמָּשׁ מַעֲדִיפָה לָשִׂים קוֹמְפְּרֶסִים עַל הַמֶּצַח כְּדֵי לְהוֹרִיד אֶת הַחוֹם בִּמְקוֹם לָקַחַת אָקָמוֹל.
And if I have a stomachache, I prefer to drink a cup of mint tea instead of going to the doctor.
וְאִם יֵשׁ לִי כְּאֵב בֶּטֶן אֲנִי מַעֲדִיפָה לִשְׁתּוֹת כּוֹס תֵּה עִם נַעְנַע בִּמְקוֹם לָלֶכֶת לָרוֹפֵא.
We use the phrase grandmother's remedies when we talk about all kinds of treatments with various medicinal plants that were used in the past.
אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בַּבִּיטּוּי "תְּרוּפוֹת סָבְתָא" כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ מְדַבְּרִים עַל כָּל מִינֵי טִיפּוּלִים עִם צִמְחֵי מַרְפֵּא שׁוֹנִים שֶׁהָיוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בָּהֶם בֶּעָבָר.
