אֵין לוֹ אָח וָרֵעַ
EIN LO ACH VA-REA’
He has no brother or friend
When we use this expression, we want to say that there is nothing like it, that it is unique, one of a kind.
כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה אֲנַחְנוּ רוֹצִים לוֹמַר עַל מַשֶּׁהוּ שֶׁאֵין מַשֶּׁהוּ שֶׁדּוֹמֶה לוֹ, שֶׁהוּא יִחוּדִי, מְיוּחָד בְּמִינוֹ.
For example, if I want to tell someone that they are doing something that no one else is doing, I will tell them: It has no equal in the world.
אִם לְמָשָׁל אֲנִי רוֹצָה לְהַגִּיד לְמִישֶׁהוּ שֶׁהוּא עוֹשֶׂה מַשֶּׁהוּ שֶׁאַף אֶחָד לֹא עוֹשֶׂה, אֲנִי אַגִּיד לוֹ: "אֵין לָזֶה אָח וָרֵעַ בָּעוֹלָם".
Of course, it depends on the context.
If the context is positive, I mean that what they are doing is original and wonderful.
זֶה תָּלוּי כַּמּוּבָן בַּהֶקְשֵׁר.
אִם הַהֶקְשֵׁר חִיּוּבִי אֲנִי מִתְכַּוֶּנֶת שֶׁמָּה שֶׁהוּא עוֹשֶׂה זֶה מְקוֹרִי וְנֶהֱדָר.
And if the context is negative, I want to say: Why are you doing this? No one in the world does this! It is not done!
וְאִם הַהֶקְשֵׁר שְׁלִילִי אֲנִי רוֹצָה לוֹמַר: לָמָּה אַתָּה עוֹשֶׂה אֶת זֶה? אַף אֶחָד בָּעוֹלָם לֹא עוֹשֶׂה אֶת זֶה! לֹא עוֹשִׂים כָּכָה!
