On the edge of the fork
Think for a moment...what can I put on a fork tip?
חִשְׁבוּ רֶגַע...מָה אֶפְשָׁר לָשִׂים עַל קְצֵה הַמַּזְלֵג?
If I put something on a fork tip – it will probably be a very small amount of food, because you can't put a lot on a fork tip.
אִם אֲנִי שָׂמָה מַשֶּׁהוּ עַל קְצֵה הַמַּזְלֵג – זֹאת כַּנִּרְאֶה תִּהְיֶה כַּמּוּת מְאוֹד קְטַנָּה שֶׁל אוֹכֶל, כִּי אִי אֶפְשָׁר לָשִׂים הַרְבֵּה עַל קְצֵה הַמַּזְלֵג.
That's exactly what this expression means!
זֹאת בְּדִיּוּק הַכַּוָּנָה שֶׁל הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה!
If I have something long to tell you, but I don't have much time, I'll tell you on 'a fork tip', meaning I'll tell you only small parts of the story, only what's most important, and another time, when I have more time, I'll tell the story in detail.
אִם יֵשׁ לִי מַשֶּׁהוּ אָרוֹךְ לְסַפֵּר לָכֶם, אֲבָל אֵין לִי הַרְבֵּה זְמַן, אֲנִי אֲסַפֵּר לָכֶם עַל 'קְצֵה הַמַּזְלֵג', כְּלוֹמַר אֲסַפֵּר לָכֶם רַק חֲלָקִים קְטַנִּים מֵהַסִּיפּוּר, רַק מָה שֶׁהֲכִי חָשׁוּב וּבְהִזְדַּמְּנוּת אַחֶרֶת, כְּשֶׁיִּהְיֶה לִי יוֹתֵר זְמַן, אֲסַפֵּר אֶת הַסִּיפּוּר בְּהַרְחָבָה.
