Hiding behind the tools (shy)
We use this expression when we refer to someone who is shy and modest and does not like publicity.
אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ מִתְכַּוְּנִים לְמִישֶׁהוּ בַּיְשָׁן וְצָנוּעַ שֶׁאֵינוֹ אוֹהֵב פִּרְסוּם.
If you want to know the origin of this expression, you need to go to the book of Samuel 1, chapter 10, and there you will see that it is told about King Saul, before he was king, who was hidden among the utensils.
אִם אַתֶּם רוֹצִים לָדַעַת מָה מְקוֹר הַבִּיטּוּי אַתֶּם צְרִיכִים לָלֶכֶת לְסֵפֶר שְׁמוּאֵל א' פֶּרֶק י' וְשָׁם תִּרְאוּ שֶׁמְּסוּפָּר עַל שָׁאוּל הַמֶּלֶךְ, לִפְנֵי שֶׁהָיָה מֶלֶךְ, שֶׁהָיָה נֶחְבָּא אֶל הַכֵּלִים.
When the people of Israel were about to crown themselves a king, they held a ceremony of casting lots. The tribe of Benjamin came up by lot, and from the tribe of Benjamin, the name of Saul the son Kish came up by lot.
כַּאֲשֶׁר עָמְדוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְהַכְתִּיר עַל עַצְמָם מֶלֶךְ, הֵם עָרְכוּ טֶקֶס הַפָּלַת גּוֹרָלוֹת. שֵׁבֶט בִּנְיָמִין עָלָה בַּגּוֹרָל וּמִתּוֹךְ שֵׁבֶט בִּנְיָמִין עָלָה בַּגּוֹרָל שְׁמוֹ שֶׁל שָׁאוּל בֵּן קִישׁ.
When they went to look for Saul to make him king, they could not find him. In the end, they found him "hiding among the utensils," meaning hiding behind various objects because he was very modest and did not want to be king at all.
כַּאֲשֶׁר הָלְכוּ לְחַפֵּשׂ אֶת שָׁאוּל כְּדֵי לְהַמְלִיכוֹ לְמֶלֶךְ, לֹא מָצְאוּ אוֹתוֹ. בְּסוֹפוֹ שֶׁל דָּבָר מָצְאוּ אוֹתוֹ "נֶחְבָּא אֶל הַכֵּלִים", כְּלוֹמַר הִסְתַּתֵּר מֵאֲחוֹרֵי חֲפָצִים שׁוֹנִים כִּי הוּא הָיָה מְאוֹד צָנוּעַ וְלֹא רָצָה לִהְיוֹת מֶלֶךְ בִּכְלָל.
