HA-YOM KATSAR VE-HA-MELACHA MERUBA
The day is short and there is a lot to do
מְלָאכָה = work
The origin of this expression is from the Mishnah.
מְלָאכָה = עֲבוֹדָה
מְקוֹר הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה הוּא מֵהַמִּשְׁנָה.
The sages of the Mishnah want to convey the message that our days are supposed to be filled with activities and the observance of mitzvot. The better we do in the world and the more mitzvot we observe, the better.
חַכְמֵי הַמִּשְׁנָה רוֹצִים לְהַעֲבִיר אֶת הַמֶּסֶר שֶׁהַיָּמִים שֶׁלָּנוּ אֲמוּרִים לִהְיוֹת מְלֵאִים בַּעֲשִׂיָּה וּבְקִיּוּם מִצְווֹת. כְּכָל שֶׁנַּעֲשֶׂה טוֹב יוֹתֵר בָּעוֹלָם וּכְכָל שֶׁנְּקַיֵּם יוֹתֵר מִצְווֹת כָּךְ יִיטַב.
In my opinion, you don't have to be a Jew or even a believer to agree with this expression. In my opinion, this expression should be the guiding principle for every person in life.
לְפִי דַּעֲתִּי לֹא צָרִיךְ לִהְיוֹת יְ הוּדִי וַאֲפִילּוּ לֹא אָדָם מַאֲמִין כְּדֵי לְהַסְכִּים עִם הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה. בְּעֵינַי הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה צָרִיךְ לִהְיוֹת הָעִקָּרוֹן שֶׁמּוֹבִיל כָּל אָדָם בַּחַיִּים.
I wake up every morning with a long list of tasks (To do list) and time is always short and the there is a lot to do.
אֲנִי קָמָה בַּבּוֹקֶר בְּכָל יוֹם עִם רְשִׁימָה אֲרוּכָּה שֶׁל מַטָּלוֹת (To do list) וְתָמִיד הַזְּמַן קָצָר וְהַמְּלָאכָה מְרוּבָּה.
