בַּשָּׁעוֹת הַקְּטַנּוֹת שֶׁל הַלַּיְלָה

In the small hours of the night
The meaning of this expression is: very late.
מַשְׁמָעוּת הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה הִיא: מְאוּחָר מְאוֹד.
The word small refers to the small numbers that we use to indicate the time, for example 1am or 2am.
הַמִּילָּה קְטַנּוֹת מִתְיַחֶסֶת לַמִּסְפָּרִים הַקְּטַנִּים שֶׁבָּהֶם אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים כְּדֵי לְצַיֵּן אֶת הַשָּׁעָה, לְדוּגְמָא: 01:00 אוֹ 02:00 לִפְנוֹת בּוֹקֶר.
For example: "I worked yesterday until the small hours of the night" = I worked until very late.
Or "I couldn't fall asleep yesterday until the small hours of the night" = I couldn't fall asleep until very late.
לְמָשָׁל: "עָבַדְתִּי אֶתְמוֹל עַד הַשָּׁעוֹת הַקְּטַנּוֹת שֶׁל הַלַּיְלָה" = עָבַדְתִּי עַד מְאוּחָר מְאוֹד.
אוֹ "לֹא הִצְלַחְתִּי לְהֵרָדֵם אֶתְמוֹל עַד הַשָּׁעוֹת הַקְּטַנּוֹת שֶׁל הַלַּיְלָה" = לֹא הִצְלַחְתִּי לְהֵרָדֵם עַד שָׁעָה מְאוֹד מְאוּחֶרֶת.
Some people go out to party until the small hours of the night and if they don't have to get up in the morning for work then they can sleep until the "big" hours of the day...
יֵשׁ כָּאֵלֶּה שֶׁיּוֹצְאִים לְבַלּוֹת עַד הַשָּׁעוֹת הַקְּטַנּוֹת שֶׁל הַלַּיְלָה וְאִם הֵם לֹא צְרִיכִים לָקוּם בַּבּוֹקֶר לָעֲבוֹדָה אָז הֵם יְכוֹלִים לִישׁוֹן עַד הַשָּׁעוֹת "הַגְּדוֹלוֹת" שֶׁל הַיּוֹם...
