IM HA-ROSH BA-KIR
With his head against the wall
We use this expression when referring to someone who insists on doing something and is determined to see it through to the end.
אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ מִתְכַּוְּנִים שֶׁמִּישֶׁהוּ מִתְעַקֵּשׁ לַעֲשׂוֹת מַשֶּׁהוּ, וְלָלֶכֶת עִם זֶה עַד הַסּוֹף.
Sometimes, such people are worthy of appreciation for their perseverance and persistence, which can lead them to success. But it's not always the case.
לִפְעָמִים אֲנָשִׁים כָּאֵלֶּה רְאוּיִים לְהַעֲרָכָה עַל הָעַקְשָׁנוּת וְהַהַתְמָדָה שֶׁלָּהֶם שֶׁיְּכוֹלָה לְהוֹבִיל אוֹתָם לְהַצְלָחָה, אֲבָל זֶה לֹא תָּמִיד כָּכָה.
Occasionally, people insist on doing something even when we can see that their chances of success are slim. In such situations, we might ask them: "Why are you banging your head against the wall?"
לִפְעָמִים אֲנָשִׁים מִתְעַקְּשִׁים לַעֲשׂוֹת מַשֶּׁהוּ, וַאֲנַחְנוּ מֵהַצַּד רוֹאִים אֶת זֶה, וְיוֹדְעִים שֶׁאֵין הַרְבֵּה סִיכּוּי שֶׁהֵם יַצְלִיחוּ, אָז בְּמַצָּב כָּזֶה נִשְׁאַל אוֹתָם: "לָמָּה אַתֶּם נִכְנָסִים עִם הָרֹאשׁ בַּקִּיר?"
There are also others who feel that what they are about to do will be too difficult or will require too much effort, and they are unsure if they will succeed. In such cases, they say in advance: "I will not bang my head against the wall."
וְיֵשׁ אֲנָשִׁים אֲחֵרִים שֶׁמַּרְגִּישִׁים שֶׁמָּה שֶׁהֵם הוֹלְכִים לַעֲשׂוֹת יִהְיֶה יוֹתֵר מִדַּי קָשֶׁה אוֹ שֶׁהֵם יִצְטָרְכוּ לְהַשְׁקִיעַ בּוֹ יוֹתֵר מִדַּי מַאֲמָץ וְלֹא בָּטוּחַ שֶׁיַּצְלִיחוּ אָז הֵם אוֹמְרִים מֵרֹאשׁ: "אֲנִי לֹא נִכְנַס עִם הָרֹאשׁ בַּקִּיר".
