הַפְסָקַת אֵשׁ

Ceasefire
This expression does not really mean putting out a burning fire, but rather to stop a war or a quarrel between two sides.
הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה לֹא בֶּאֱמֶת אוֹמֵר לְהַפְסִיק אֵשׁ שֶׁדּוֹלֶקֶת אֶלָּא מַשְׁמָעוּתוֹ הַפְסָקָה שֶׁל מִלְחָמָה אוֹ וִיכּוּחַ בֵּין שְׁנֵי צְדָדִים.
The term " ceasefire" means that all the parties to the dispute first stop using weapons one against the other, and then sit down and talk and try to reach an agreement.
הֶסְכֵּם הַפְסָקַת אֵשׁ אוֹמֵר שֶׁקּוֹדֶם כָּל מַפְסִיקִים לְהִשְׁתַּמֵּשׁ בִּכְלֵי נֶשֶׁק אֶחָד נֶגֶד הַשֵּׁנִי וְאַחַר כָּךְ יוֹשְׁבִים וּמְדַבְּרִים וּמְנַסִּים לְהַגִּיעַ לְהַסְכָּמוֹת.
But it is not only in war that we use this expression. It is possible to use it in everyday life as well.
אֲבָל לֹא רַק בְּמִלְחָמָה אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה. אֶפְשָׁר לְהִשְׁתַּמֵּשׁ בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה גַּם בְּחַיֵּי הַיּוֹמְיוֹם.
For example, if there is a quarrel between my two children and they are shouting at each other, I will ask them for a "ceasefire", as if I would ask them to stop shouting and explain to me what happened.
אִם לְמָשָׁל יֵשׁ וִיכּוּחַ בֵּין שְׁנֵי הַיְּלָדִים שֶׁלִּי, וְהֵם צוֹעֲקִים זֶה עַל זֶה, אֲנִי אֲבַקֵּשׁ מֵהֶם "הַפְסָקַת אֵשׁ", כְּלוֹמַר אֲנִי אֲבַקֵּשׁ שֶׁהֵם יַפְסִיקוּ לִצְעוֹק וְיַסְבִּירוּ לִי מָה קָרָה..
