Sweet

Sweetness has very good public relations.

לַטַּעַם הַמָּתוֹק יֵשׁ יַחֲסֵי צִיבּוּר טוֹבִים מְאוֹד.

Almost everyone loves to eat sweet things, such as cakes and candies. Additionally, we use this adjective to describe something adorable, lovable, and charming – for example: "What a sweet child!"

כִּמְעַט כּוּלָּם אוֹהֲבִים לֶאֱכוֹל מָתוֹק, כְּמוֹ לְמָשָׁל: עוּגוֹת וּמַמְתַּקִּים, וְחוּץ מִזֶּה אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בְּשֵׁם הַתּוֹאַר הַזֶּה כְּדֵי לְדַבֵּר עַל מַשֶּׁהוּ חָמוּד, חָבִיב וּמַקְסִים לְמָשָׁל: "אֵיזֶה יֶלֶד מָתוֹק!".

At the beginning of the Hebrew year, we bless each other with the greeting "Shana Tova U'Metuka" ("A good and sweet year"). And for someone going to sleep, we bless them with "Sweet dreams."

בִּתְחִילַּת הַשָּׁנָה הָעִבְרִית אֲנַחְנוּ מְבָרְכִים זֶה אֶת זֶה בְּבִרְכַּת "שָׁנָה טוֹבָה וּמְתוּקָה". וּמִי שֶׁהוֹלֵךְ לִישׁוֹן נְבָרֵךְ אוֹתוֹ בְּבִרְכַּת "חֲלוֹמוֹת מְתוּקִים".

יֵשׁ לָנוּ גַּם בִּיטּוּי נֶהְדָּר עִם הַמִּילָּה מָתוֹק: "מֵעַז יָצָא מָתוֹק" וְהוּא מוֹפִיעַ בְּאַרְגַּז הַבִּיטּוּיִים בְּנוֹשֵׂא טְעָמִים וְתַבְלִינִים אָז אִם אַתֶּם רוֹצִים לָדַעַת מָה מַשְׁמָעוּתוֹ נָא לַחֲצוּ כָּאן.

הִנֵּה כַּמָּה מִשְׁפָּטִים עִם הַמִּילָּה מָתוֹק:

1. On a cold winter day, I really enjoy drinking sweet and hot tea with plenty of mint leaves inside.

1. אֲנִי מַמָּשׁ אוֹהֶבֶת בְּיוֹם חוֹרֶף קַר לִשְׁתּוֹת תֵּה מָתוֹק וְחַם עִם הַרְבֵּה עֲלֵי נַעֲנַע בִּפְנִים.

4. When I ordered the famous chocolate cake, I was surprised to find that it was too sweet for me, to the point where I had to drink water after every bite.
