Hot

It's very interesting that the word "hot" in English being used to describe both spiciness and heat.

זֶה מְעַנְיֵן מְאוֹד שֶׁבְּאַנְגְּלִית אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בַּמִּילָּה Hot כְּדֵי לְצַיֵּן אֶת הַטַּעַם הֶחָרִיף. אֲבָל הַמִּילָּה Hotבְּאַנְגְּלִית מַשְׁמָעוּתָהּ גַּם חַם.

On second thought the connection makes sense—eating something spicy often evokes physical heat, as people say, "It burns my tongue" or "I feel like smoke is coming out of my ears."

בְּמַחְשָׁבָה שְׁנִיָּה – יֵשׁ קֶשֶׁר בֵּין הַדְּבָרִים כִּי מִישֶׁהוּ שֶׁאוׄכֵל מַשֶּׁהוּ חָרִיף, נִהְיָה לוֹ חַם וְהוּא אוֹמֵר "שׂוֹרֶפֶת לִי הַלָּשׁוֹן" אוֹ " אֲנִי מַרְגִּישׁ שֶׁיּוֹצֵא לִי עָשָׁן מֵהָאוׄזְנַיִם"...

In the trunk of expressions related to flavors and spices we have two expressions with the word חָרִיף-

בְּאַרְגַּז הַבִּיטּוּיִים בְּנוֹשֵׂא טְעָמִים וְתַבְלִינִים יֵשׁ לָנוּ שְׁנֵי בִּיטּוּיִים עִם הַמִּילָּה חָרִיף: "שִׂכְלוֹ חָרִיף" וְ"מַשְׁקֶה חָרִיף". אִם אַתֶּם רוֹצִים לִלְמוֹד עַל הַבִּיטּוּיִים הָאֵלֶּה נָא לַחֲצוּ כָּאן.

I heard that it's not recommended to eat too much spicy food because it doesn't just burn the tongue...

Here are some examples using "חָרִיף" in different contexts:

הִנֵּה כַּמָּה מִשְׁפָּטִים עִם הַמִּילָּה חָרִיף:

1. The taste of the hot pepper I accidentally added to the dish was so dominant that it was hard to notice the other ingredients.

1. טַעֲמוֹ שֶׁל הַפִּלְפֵּל הֶחָרִיף שֶׁהוֹסַפְתִּי בְּטָעוּת לַתַּבְשִׁיל הָיָה כָּל כָּךְ דּוֹמִינַנְטִי, עַד שֶׁהָיָה קָשֶׁה לְהַרְגִּישׁ אֶת שְׁאָר הַמַּרְכִּיבִים.

2. The spicy chili dish we ordered at the Asian restaurant was so intense that even the biggest spicy hot lovers struggled to finish it.

2. מְנַת הַצִּ'ילִי הֶחָרִיף שֶׁהִזְמַנּוּ בַּמִּסְעָדָה הָאַסְיָתִית הָיְתָה כָּל כָּךְ עוׄצְמָתִית, שֶׁאֲפִילּוּ חוֹבְבֵי הֶחָרִיף הַגְּדוֹלִים בְּיוֹתֵר הִתְקַשּׁוּ לְסַיֵּם אוֹתָהּ.

3. During the heated argument, sharp criticism was directed at the company's management, further intensifying the discussion.

3. בְּמַהֲלַךְ הַוִּיכּוּחַ עָלְתָה בִּקּוֹרֶת חֲרִיפָה עַל הַנְהָלַת הַחֶבְרָה, שֶׁגָּרְמָה לַדִּיּוּן לְהִתְלַהֵט עוֹד יוֹתֵר.

4. When he stepped up to deliver his speech, he used a sharp tone to convey his message in a way no one in the audience could ignore.

4. כְּשֶׁהוּא עָלָה לִנְאוֹם, הוּא הִשְׁתַּמֵּשׁ בְּטוֹן חָרִיף כְּדֵי לְהַעֲבִיר אֶת הַמֶּסֶר שֶׁלּוֹ בְּצוּרָה שֶׁאַף אֶחָד בַּקָּהָל לֹא יוּכַל לְהִתְעַלֵּם מִמֶּנּוׄ.
