Sour
We recognize the sour taste in lemons and in vegetables we pickle and serve on the table as side dishes alongside the main courses: pickled cucumbers, pickled cabbage, and many other vegetables that can be pickled.
אֶת הַטַּעַם הֶחָמוּץ אֲנַחְנוּ מַכִּירִים בְּלִימוֹן וּבַיְּרָקוֹת שֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ מַחֲמִיצִים וְשָׂמִים עַל הַשּׁוּלְחָן כְּתוֹסָפוֹת לְיַד הַמָּנוֹת הָעִיקָּרִיּוֹת: מְלָפְפוֹן חָמוּץ, כְּרוּב חָמוּץ וְיֵשׁ עוֹד הַרְבֵּה יְרָקוֹת שֶׁאֶ פְשָׁר לְהַחֲמִיץ.
When I buy a falafel dish, I like to put pickled cabbage and pickled cucumbers in the pita.
כְּשֶׁאֲנִי קוֹנָה מָנָה שֶׁל פָלָאפֶל, אֲנִי אוֹהֶבֶת לָשִׂים בַּפִּיתָּה כְּרוּב חָמוּץ וּמְלָפְפוֹן חָמוּץ.
Sourness is also a taste or smell of something that has spoiled, like milk.
הֶחָמוּץ הוּא גַּם טַעַם אוֹ רֵיחַ שֶׁל מַשֶּׁהוּ שֶׁהִתְקַלְקֵל, לְמָשָׁל חָלָב.
If someone is in a bad mood, and you can see it on their face, we might ask them – why do you have a sour face?
אִם לְמִישֶׁהוּ יֵשׁ מַצַּב רוּחַ לֹא טוֹב וְרוֹאִים אֶת זֶה עַל הַפָּנִים שֶׁלּוֹ אֲנַחְנוּ נִשְׁאָל אוֹתוֹ - לָמָּה יֵשׁ לְךָ פַּרְצוּף חָמוּץ?
