A cake - Cakes
There is a very well-known children's song that every child in kindergarten in Israel knows: "UGA, UGA, UGA, in a circle, let’s go around it". The children learn this song and dance together in a circle.
יֵשׁ שִׁיר יְלָדִים יָדוּעַ מְאוֹד שֶׁכָּל יֶלֶד בַּגַּן בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל מַכִּיר: "עוּגָה, עוּגָה, עוּגָה בַּמַּעֲגָּל נָחוּגָה".
הַיְּלָדִים לוֹמְדִים אֶת הַשִּׁיר הַזֶּה וְרוֹקְדִים יַחַד בַּמַּעֲגָּל.
So, what does the word "Cake" have to do here? Actually, the word "UGA" in this song does not mean "cake" but is derived from the root ע.ו.ג, which means to form a circle or to revolve in a circular manner.
אָז מָה קְשׁוּרָה כָּאן הַמִּילָּה עוּגָה?
בְּעֶצֶם הַמִּילָּה עוּגָה בַּשִּׁיר הַזֶּה הִיא לֹא Cake אֶלָּא צִיּוּוּי שֶׁל הַשּׁוֹרֶשׁ ע.ו.ג שֶׁפֵּרוּשׁוֹ לִיצוֹר מַעֲגָּל אוֹ לְהִסְתּוֹבֵב בְּמַעֲגָּל.
The word "Ugah" in the sense of a "cake" is so-called because it is typically round. But what about square-shaped cakes? Well, there isn't a special name for a square-shaped cake; even if it's square, it's still called a cake.
הַמִּילָּה עוּגָה בְּמַשְׁמָעוּת Cake נִקְרֵאת כָּכָה כִּי הִיא עֲגוּלָּה.
אֲבָל מָה עוֹשִׂים עִם הָעוּגָה מְרוּבַּעַת?
טוֹב, אֵין שֵׁם מְיוּחָד לְעוּגָה מְרוּבַּעַת, גַּם אִם הִיא מְרוּבַּעַת, עֲדַיִן קוֹרְאִים לָהּ עוּגָה.
There are cakes in all kinds of colors, shapes, sizes, and flavors. We prepare special cakes for special occasions, such as a birthday cake or a wedding cake.
יֵשׁ עוּגוֹת בְּכָל מִינֵי צְבָעִים, צוּרוֹת, גְּדָלִים וּטְעָמִים. אֲנַחְנוּ מְכִינִים עוּגוֹת מְיוּחָדוֹת לְאֵירוּעִים מְיוּחָדִים, לְמָשָׁל: עוּגַת יוֹם הוּלֶּדֶת אוֹ עוּגַת חֲתוּנָּה.

הִנֵּה כַּמָּה מִשְׁפָּטִים עִם הַמִּילָּה עוּגָה אוֹ עוּגוֹת:
1. In the new bakery that opened in the city center, they offer a wide variety of homemade cakes, including yeast cakes, cheesecakes, and luxurious mousse cakes.

3. For Shavuot, I made a cheesecake with a crumbled topping.
3. לִכְבוֹד חַג הַשָּׁבוּעוֹת הֵכַנְתִּי עוּגַת גְּבִינָה עִם פֵּירוּרִים.
4. When my son turned 8, I ordered a cake with a picture of Superman for his birthday. The cake had three layers and covered with sweet, whipped cream.
4. כְּשֶׁהַבֵּן שֶׁלִּי הָיָה בֵּן 8 הִזְמַנְתִּי לְיוֹם הַהוּלֶּדֶת שֶׁלּוֹ עוּגָה עִם תְּמוּנָה שֶׁל סוּפֶּרְמֶן. הָעוּגָה הָיְתָה בַּת שָׁלוֹשׁ שְׁכָבוֹת וּמְכוּסָּה בְּקַצֶּפֶת מְתוּקָה.
