To wear make up
The translation of the infinitive לְהִתְאַפֵּר into English is "to wear makeup." But note! In Hebrew, "to put on makeup" is just one of the actions we perform as part of לְהִתְאַפֵּר.
הַתַּרְגּוּם שֶׁל שֵׁם הַפֹּעַל לְהִתְאַפֵּר לְאַנְגְּלִית הוּא To wear make-up, אֲבָל שִׂימוּ לֵב! בְּעִבְרִית "לָשִׂים מֵיְיק אַפּ" זוֹ רַק אַחַת מֵהַפְּעוּלּוֹת שֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ עוֹשִׂים כְּדֵי לְהִתְאַפֵּר.
If I want לְהִתְאַפֵּר, there are many steps I need to take: The first is to apply foundation (makeup), then usually I apply powder, followed by eyeshadow above the eyes, eyeliner, and mascara. Blush on the cheeks, lipstick on the lips, and a lip liner.
אִם אֲנִי רוֹצָה לְהִתְאַפֵּר יֵשׁ הַרְבֵּה פְּעוּלּוֹת שֶׁאֲנִי צְרִיכָה לַעֲשׂוֹת:
הָרִאשׁוֹנָה הִיא לָשִׂים מֵיְיק-אַפּ, אַחַר כָּךְ בְּדֶרֶךְ כְּלָל אֲנִי שָׂמָה פּוּדְרָה, אַחַר כָּךְ צְלָלִית מֵעַל הָעֵינַיִם, אַיְלַיְנֶר וּמַסְקָרָה. סוֹמֶק בַּלְּחַיִּים, אוֹדֶם בַּשְּׂפָתַיִם וְגַם תּוֹחֵם.
In this short text, there are more words in English than in Hebrew. However, my goal is to show that all these actions together mean לְהִתְאַפֵּר"."
בַּקֶּטַע הַקָּצָר הַזֶּה יֵשׁ יוֹתֵר מִילִּים בְּאַנְגְּלִית מֵאֲשֶׁר בְּעִבְרִית, אֲבָל הַמַּטָּרָה שֶׁלִּי הִיא לוֹמַר שֶׁכָּל הַפְּעוּלּוֹת הָאֵלֶּה יַחַד פֵּירוּשָׁן לְהִתְאַפֵּר.
In Purim, we customarily put on makeup to complete the costume. However, there are those who prefer exaggerated makeup or very bold colors in Purim because it is a joyful and playful feast.
בְּפוּרִים אֲנַחְנוּ נוֹהֲגִים לְהִתְאַפֵּר כְּדֵי לְהַשְׁלִים אֶת הַתַּחְפּוֹשֶׂת. אֲבָל יֵשׁ כָּאֵלֶּה שֶׁנּוֹהֲגִים לְהִתְאַפֵּר בְּפוּרִים בְּאִיפּוּר מוּגְזָם אוֹ צְבָעִים בּוֹלְטִים מְאוֹד כִּי פּוּרִים הוּא חַג שָׂמֵחַ וּמְבַדֵּחַ.

הִנֵּה כַּמָּה מִשְׁפָּטִים עִם שֵׁם הַפֹּעַל לְהִתְאַפֵּר:
1. She cannot leave the house without putting on makeup.

3. לִפְנֵי הַכְּנִיסָה לְשִׁידּוּר מַנְחֵי הַטֵּלֵוִיזְיָה חַיָּבִים לְהִתְאַפֵּר קְצָת כִּי הַתְּאוּרָה בָּאוּלְפָּן גּוֹרֶמֶת לְעוֹרָם לְהַבְרִיק.
4. At the international makeup exhibition, visitors received practical workshops where they learned how to put on makeup using innovative techniques.
