Not everyday is Purim
Purim is a day when we free ourselves from our own limitations. We wear costumes and masks, and this allows us to do things that, without them, we wouldn’t dare to do.
פּוּרִים הוּא יוֹם שֶׁבּוֹ אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּחְרְרִים מֵהַמִּגְבָּלוֹת שֶׁל עַצְמֵנוּ. אֲנַחְנוּ לוֹבְשִׁים תַּחְפּוֹשֶׂת וְעוֹטִים מַסֵּכָה וְזֶה מְאַפְשֵׁר לָנוּ לַעֲשׂוֹת דְּבָרִים שֶׁבְּלִי הַתַּחְפּוֹשֶׂת וְהַמַּסֵּכָה לֹא הָיִינוּ מֵעֵזִּים לַעֲשׂוֹת.
There is a mitzvah (commandment) on Purim to drink alcohol and get drunk, and there are those who take this mitzvah very seriously!
יֵשׁ מִצְוָה בְּפוּרִים לִשְׁתּוֹת אַלְכּוֹהוֹל וּלְהִשְׁתַּכֵּר, וְיֵשׁ כָּאֵלֶּה שֶׁמַּקְפִּידִים בַּמִּצְוָה הַזֹּאת בִּמְיוּחָד!
So, on the other days of the year, if someone drinks alcohol regularly, we say to them: “Not every day is Purim.”
אָז בְּיֶתֶר יְמוֹת הַשָּׁנָה מִי שֶׁנּוֹהֵג לִשְׁתּוֹת אַלְכּוֹהוֹל עַל בָּסִיס קָבוּעַ, נׄאמַר לוֹ: "לֹא כָּל יוֹם פּוּרִים".
And, for example, if I bought a lot of sweets for the children yesterday and they ate all of them and they want more today, I’d say to them: “Not every day is Purim!”
וְאִם לְמָשָׁל קָנִיתִי הַרְבֵּה מַמְתַּקִּים לַיְלָדִים אֶתְמוֹל, וְהֵם אָכְלוּ אֶת כּוּלָּם וְהֵם רוֹצִים גַּם הַיּוֹם, אֲנִי אֺמַר לָהֶם: "לֹא כָּל יוֹם פּוּרִים"!
